What is Villager Hire?

Villager Hire is a baby equipment rental and child restraint install business based in Canberra and run by me, Jane. I’m a local mum and 2-under-2 survivor. I believe that while you don’t *need* a lot to raise a baby, having the right gear for the place & stage you’re in can certainly help. I’m an *avid consumer* and have tried, tested, washed, folded, installed and travelled with lots of different baby gear over the years; so I know what works.

Villager Hire only stocks baby equipment from reputable brands, and products that I trust and would confidently use myself and recommend to a friend.

It’s all in our namesake: it takes a village; let us be part of yours.

Travelling to Canberra

If Canberra is your destination, travel lighter by having baby equipment delivered directly to your accommodation, or consider using our airport concierge service if you’re flying in.

This will give you back space in your car, or save you the the hassle of checking bulky baby items in for your flight. Plus, you’ll avoid the large upfront cost associated with buying portable baby items which you may only use a handful of times. Consider hiring a full-size pram so that you can take on Lake Burley Griffin's bridge-to-bridge walk with ease.

Residents of Canberra

If you live in Canberra, hiring baby equipment is great for items that your family will only use for a brief time like a bedside bassinet or newborn carrier.

Not sure you can justify the expense for that premium product you have been eyeing off? Trial the Snoo bassinet in a 2-week rental, or hire a luxury Artipoppe carrier to wear to a wedding or event. We are happy to provide a personalised quote to extend the rental period if you find (like me) that you can’t live without these items!

If you’re heading out from Canberra on a road trip to Sydney or the South Coast, hire compact versions of baby items such as cots, travel prams and highchairs that will easily fit in the boot of your car for a fraction of the price of buying all the gear. Plus, you don’t have to find a place to store it all when you get home!

Absolutely. Villager Hire is fully insured for all of our business activities.

Baby Equipment Rental

How does the hire process work?

Select your dates and add the equipment you need to hire from our Rental Shop your cart. Checkout online and choose your zone for directly directly to your location in Canberra. When your hire period ends, we’ll collect everything directly from you. Alternatively, you can pick up/drop off your hire items for free from Downer Community Centre on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Is the equipment clean and safe?

Absolutely! We prioritise the health and safety of your little ones. All items are thoroughly cleaned, sanitised, and safety-checked before and after each hire.

Can I pick up and return the equipment myself?

Yes! Villager Hire runs a pop-up shop at Downer Community Centre between 9:30-10:30am Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We also offer delivery and collection of hired equipment, with fees based on your suburb's Zone.

Do you require a security deposit?

Yes, there is a 20% security deposit applicable each equipment hire booking. This is refundable on the safe return of your hire equipment in accordance with our terms and conditions.

Additionally, we will request to sight your photo id (such as a Driver License) at the start of your rental period to ensure details that match the name and address of your hire booking.

Are there minimum and maximum hire periods?

No. You can set your rental period for however short or long as you need. Most of our pricing is set at a flat weekly rate, so whether you hire for 1 day or 7 days, the price is the same.

Airport Rentals

How do Airport Rentals work?

When travelling with infants and young children, there is so much to manage and so much equipment to juggle.

That’s where we come in. Let us know your flight details and the equipment you want to hire, and we’ll meet you in the baggage claim hall of Canberra Airport. After your long transit, we’ll be an extra set of hands ready to hold your baby, entertain your toddler or load up your luggage trolley. Whatever you need, just say the word!

We are not a chauffeur service, but we can fit your rented car seats to a taxi, ride share, rental car, or private vehicle so that you can travel safety to your accommodation. We’ll also show you how to uninstall or reinstall the child restraint so that you can use it for the rest of your rental period.
